This photograph was taken in the early spring, when we walked from Margate along the stretch of coastline to the east. Kingsgate Bay caught our imagination, with its high chalk cliffs and flint-studded castle, which has stood firm against the sea for over two centuries.
For a moment, it felt as if we’d travelled back in time. There was no one else on the beach – just the seagulls wheeling overhead, and the crash of waves against the sea-wall. The print captures that stillness, and the colours hidden in the landscape, from the vivid green mosses and lichens to the soft, stippled grey of the sky.
